Never Wait For Someone To Help You Follow Your Dreams

AdobePhotoshopExpress_cf5d04224399425cabfd81b9817db830It is a scary decision to finally set out and follow your dreams. Whether your dreams are easy to obtain or a bit harder, just putting yourself out there and risking failure can be terrifying. There are a few reasons why we do this. For many, myself included, it is easier to go with a “backup” plan rather than to go for what we want because then if we fail it’s not the end of the world. It wasn’t our first choice anyway. For some people, they tell themselves, “I’ll go after my dreams once I get the right opportunity. I’ll travel the world when I get a partner to go with me, I’ll pursue my acting career once I have someone else to help me through it.” but this is the most dangerous mindset of all.

Being dependent on someone else, especially in this day and age, is self destruction. It’s inhibiting you to do the things you really want because you’re too busy waiting on someone else. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve met who have told me, “I would love to travel but I don’t have anyone to go with me.” I don’t either but I still travel. I knew that I couldn’t wait until someone could travel with me because what if I never found them? What if they never came around? Or what if by that time I was ready to settle down and not want to travel so much?

Following your dreams is often a solo journey so it’s great if you start working towards being comfortable with that. After all, your dreams are entirely¬†yours,¬†no one else’s. As a young girl, I was slightly heavier and can remember wanting to lose weight. I kept thinking to myself “I wish I had a personal trainer, I wish I had someone to eat healthier with me, I wish someone could help me!” It wasn’t until a couple of years later when I realized all that wishing and waiting for someone to help wasn’t doing any good. If I wanted to lose weight and get in shape I would have to do it on my own. That realization right there was one of the first times I realized that I was on my own. No one could help and I shouldn’t expect them too. I am forever grateful for realizing that early on.

So what do you dream of? Is it going to college? Traveling the world? Starting your own business? Becoming a singer? Whatever you dream of, stop waiting for that magical genie to come and help you. They won’t come. The only person that can make your dreams happen is you and trust me you can do it. It can be a long lonely road but the outcome is so incredibly worth it.
